Alaves will lose very few points at home this season.

Although is a newly promoted team this year from the second division, they have long experience in La Liga and historically their strong point to achieve the targets have always been their home performances.

It’s a team who performs very well at home, with huge support, good pressure, fans support, and very difficult to beat. If they want to avoid relegation they know that it’s crucial to achieve as many points as possible at home, and they are doing that: they have lost the three away games played so far (with poor performances) and have won the two home games played against strong teams like Sevilla and Valencia.

In both games Alaves showed a very strong attitude, with ambition, spending a lot of energy, and great chemistry with the crowd. They looked a very difficult team to beat, even in the crazy game against Sevilla when they were 1:2 down, scored fastly a goal to equalize and then scored another two fast goals in 5 minutes.

The signing of striker Kike Garcia has been a huge success. He is great with the pressure, he always gives his 200%, and has a lot of experience in La Liga with this kind of teams (Eibar, Osasuna, and now Alaves). He has scored two goals already + a penalty missed.

On the other hand, I think that Athletic Bilbao has been overperforming a bit. They have a weak squad this season, their current balance is 3W 1D and 1L (Real Madrid).

This season they have the same problem as last year: lack of goal. They don't have any reliable striker, so in some games they are generating a lot of chances but missing them. They need to create a lot to score goals, and this against Alaves at their stadium won’t be possible. Alaves is a team that at home concedes very few chances to rivals, must be very precise, and Athletic isn’t.

Their best player Nico Willliams is injured and will miss this match. He gave two assists in the victory against Osasuna 0:2 and forced two penalties in the victory 4:2 against Betis.

Athletic is a team that struggles against defensive teams, because only Williams brothers (Iñaki + Nico) have the pace and ability to dribble, make fast moves and break solid defenses. And without Nico (who is the best one), only Iñaki will have that option, so surely Alaves will be careful of that.

In their last game without Nico Williams against Cadiz, who parked the bus, Athletic struggled a lot and made a terrible first half, with a lot of possession and control but very few chances. They had to wait for the second half to find more spaces and score.

I’m expecting another good performance by Alaves at home, who will put a lot of intensity and won’t leave Athletic spaces in defense. Furthermore, at counters the hosts are a very dangerous team and I see them totally able to score some goal here. Alaves is unbeaten in their last 7 home games against Athletic. Their last defeat was in 2003, 20 years ago.

Athletic made a strong start of the season but honestly I don’t see them as a TOP team this season, and the absence of Nico William is terrible for them because it’s their key player for this kind of games (away, against defensive teams, where they must be fast and effective).
