I had a good chat of the Greek teams in Europe today with a Greek friend who is responsible for collecting and analyzing data of the Greek Superleague for a well-known data analysis company, and I will share some of his views, especially of the HJK v PAOK game which I will also personally attend, and as you may know HJK is the team I know best as I have been living next to the stadion for most of my life.

Obviously the facts we all know are that PAOK are the better team with players who are some 7-8 times more valued in the market, nd we also know that the Greek are not always that great on their travels, and that HJK artificial pitch does bring quite a lot of added home advantage.

So it is all about team news, form, and approach to the game to estimate a correct price for PAOK to win - or not to win - here.

To start with the basics the weather is good, nice and warm and it does not bring any new attributes here.

HJK are close to another title in the local league Veikkausliiga after winning Inter Turku last round by 2-0, but it was a really poor HJK performance and they needed the red card for Inter.

There are some alarming doubts at the HJK camp. As mentioned there is a lot quantity and they can field even 2 very strong starting eleven, but as all teams there are players better than others, and their absolute key players are keeper Mäenpää, striker Radulovic, winger Keskinen, all-round defender Peltola and the centre-backs in general.

HJK miss 4 key men today in worst case scenario! Centrebacks Tenho and Halme are out for sure, probably also Peltola, but the biggest news is that the keeper is a strong doubt! There is no backup keeper at all who is even close to the level of Mäenpää, and if he is out it is massive loss.

HJK have been two years in a row in the group stage, but they have come short quality-wise in Europe. They did sign several players in the transfer window just because of this, the shiniest star was keeper Mäenpää, but the rest of the new names are mostly useless, not any better than the rest of the team. Kristopher da Graca, Niko Hämäläinen, Filip Rogic and Hassane Bandé are the names, and there is not much positive to say about them. The sports director of HJK by the way is also gone, probably partly because of failed signings.

At PAOK we have a surprisingly strong attacking team. Today they will likely field this 11:

Kotarski (GK), Kedziora (RB), Baba or Rafa (LB), Koulietakis (CB), Troost Ekong (CB), Tsingaras (DM), Schwab (CM), Zivkovic (RW), Taison or Despodov (LW), Konstantelias (AM), Thomas (CF).

The absolutely best part is the the trio behind the centreforward, and there is a reason why Zivkovic has been talked as the Serbian Messi! If there is a weakness to be found it is the relative slowness of the central defense, but in the air they are strong so from HJK's point of view to success they would need several successful quick passes and dribbles and challenges close to the penalty area, and to get a foot open to shoot.

Until last season PAOK had been 15 seasons in a row in European competition, it is quite a lot compared to HJK's 3 in total of their history.

There will not be too many surprises to each team these days with all the data available, but there is additional insight at HJK of PAOK as they have a Greek player Kanellopoulos -pic below - who knows PAOK well, and also at least one player of PAOK has been in Helsinki earlier playing for Rapid Wien, Schwab.

After taking a look at all angles we came to the solution with colleague Tasos that PAOK will win, but they can also concede a goal, so we talk about 1-2,3 here.

A few notes from other Greek teams too.

AEK visit Brighton, and they will miss their absolute two best centre-backs tonight, and they can not be replaced says my man. Moukoudi and Vida are the ones out. Brighton coach De Zerbi are sure to rotate, but he is such a quality coach that probably it only makes the team better! The odds look short though at BJ.

There were quite a lot of positives to say about Olympiakos and Panathinaikos too, but as both of those face opponents who have several rotations and possible changes in general it is better not to go too deep into these at all. Good luck, have a great day!
