It’s always a bit risky to bet on a large handicap in the Champions League but here the quality gulf is huge.

Barcelona is starting another campaign in the Champions League with the target of reaching the ⅛ finals. After two shocking campaigns being knocked out in the group stage, they need to start this new campaign with confidence and strike their hands on the table in this first home game.

They started the season pretty well, with 4 victories and one draw, and are coming with a lot of confidence after this weekend's 5:0 over Betis. There we saw how good the new transfers (Cancelo, Joao Felix) are for the team. They have a lot of chemistry and know very well what coach Xavi wants.

Barcelona has shown ability in this season to score goals easily. They are not depending on Lewandowski or a sole striker. Several players are in great form and with confidence, scoring goals easily: Ferran Torres, Lamine Yamal, Rafinha…

Several key players are back from injuries and will be a good boost for the team, especially in defense (Iñigo Martinez, Kounde, Gundogan), and only Araujo and Pedri out. Both would be starters, but have good replacements in the experienced midfielder Gundogan and the french defender Kounde.

On the other hand, Royal Antwerp is one of the worst teams in the tournament. According to their value (only 3.5MM Euros) they have the 4th worst squad in the Champions League, while Barcelona has the 7th most valuable with 814MM Euros.

This is their first participation in the Champions League ever (they played the previous tournament in 1957), as they reached the ticket winning the Belgian league last season for the first time in 66 years. They played one round of qualifiers where they beat AEK Athens, although they were totally outpñlayed in the first game where they won 1:0 but conceded 2.17 expected goals (xG) and produced just 0.84.

During this years they have not been either a top team in Belgium, as they were relegated between 2004 and 2017 to the second division and were very lucky to win the title last season, with a last minute goal against Genk to equalize (2:2) and manage to be the leaders by only one point difference above Genk and Royale union SG.

Guests have a very weak squad, lacking quality and experience in this tournament, and this can have a huge cost against a motivated team like Barcelona.

Barcelona will have full control of the game, and surely will make a very strong start of the game. I hope they can score soon and find more spaces to achieve a high score, as they need it in this tournament to gain confidence and make a strong start. Guests are simply too weak and will struggle a lot here. They’ll try to be dangerous at counters but Barcelona knows how to defend that, especially with midfielder Oriol Romeu and Kounde, fast players and great stopping counters.

Upfront, I expect another good performance by all players, like against Betis. Cancelo is a nightmare for defenders, Lewandowski is a serious killer, Yamal is unpredictable, and Raphinha has the quality to dribble and give assists.
