Urawa’s defense has been rock-solid this season - they have positively surprised me! They have conceded just 20 goals in the J1 League – this is the smallest number in the league! However, their number of expected goals allowed (xGA) is 22.99. Gamba Osaka have allowed a stunning 32 goals away from home in the J1 League! Offensively Urawa have not been quite top-level though but have been unlucky in terms of expected goals (xG). Urawa do not have the loudest fans in Japan but they have still been impressive at home recently. Indeed, they have not lost any of their latest 12 games at home! Furthermore, Urawa Reds have been in impressive form lately winning four of their latest five games. Before beating Gamba they played a 1-1 draw away from home against Albirex Niigata away from home but generated more in xG – 1.42-0.89. Before this they fully deservedly beat Shonan Bellmare 1-0 away from home generating 0.87 more than the hosts in xG. Gamba Osaka, on the other hand, were abysmal on the 2nd of this month losing 0-4 away from home against Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo! Gamba managed just one shot on goal – the hosts recorded eight. Moreover, Gamba generated just 0.30 in xG – the hosts recorded 2.89.
