Dortmund vs Man City

I have to admit I expected a bit more from City in the first leg. But having watched the match a couple of times and really investigating advanced statistics perhaps we need to give a lot of credit to the German side here! They did a lot better than expected. As a whole Dortmund have had a slightly disappointing season as they probably won't make it to the top-4 in the German Bundesliga and qualify for the Champions League for next season - unless they lift the trophy this year! We all know they have two absolute World-class offensive players in Sancho and Håland but as team they still have been too inconsistent. I would say they indeed played one of their best games in the first leg, despite losing 1-2. They played aggressive football and were not just concentrating on defending. A wise decision as City would have crushed them. But still I would say they over-performed and are unlikely to repeat the performance this Wednesday. They will most probably still be missing Sancho which hurts them perhaps more than many realize. I suspect Håland will be too " alone" again in the offense. Reus played great week and at times it was like we were five or six years back in time when he was at his best! But again, he rarely reaches that level these days.

Manchester City or in my opinion the one of the two best football teams in the World with Bayern Munich. Hard to say which one is really better.. They don't play nearly as aggressive (and risky) , offensive and entertaining football as Munich so football fans and bettors alike don't probably give the the credit they deserve at the moment. And of course we all know they have, despite huge expectations and potential, failed to reach the final in Champions League for example losing to French team Lyon last year. But again this competition has the best teams in the World and not making it to that final can't really be seen as a huge failure - or surprise in my opinion. However, these factors probably affect the odds here too much offering decent value for us! The difference in raw class between the teams is still pretty big! This year the English team led by the best manager on the planet in my opinion Pep Guardiola seem more mature and mentally stronger than in the past and will most likely win the English Premier League by a wide margin. To lift the Champions League trophy must be their ultimate goal this season and they indeed have a great chance to do so. Expect the Citizens the be 100% motivated and focused on the match.

Dortmund will have to take big risks in Wednesday's match as they are trailing 1-2. Winning 1-0 would be enough to qualify but I really doubt they can stop city from scoring! They fact that aggregate is only 2-1 for City means they will play with their best squad and can't just try to take the draw which of course would as such be enough for them to qualify. To sum up, I see the situation Dortmund are in - must beat Man City - to be extremely demanding for any other team than Bayern Munich.. Having to take risks offensively will likely cost them. City has so much talent, experience, firepower and tactical variations thanks to Pep's genius that they have some 70% chance of winning this match. If needed they can bring better players to the pitch from the bench than Dortmund have in their starting eleven! Perhaps City underestimated the Germans a bit in the first leg after easily crushing Mönchengladbach, who are about the same level as Dortmund, in the previous round. They will not now. I would not be surprised if City won by two or even three goals here but the pick is on City to win.
