Both teams will be incredibly disappointed to have lost in the semi-finals but they now need to bounce back and try to finish on a high. And in a match like this one where both could be lacking motivation, I see Australia favorite for several reasons.

Firstly, the home support. Australia will have their whole country behind, as shown against England with more than 75000 fans in the stadium. Now they are playing for the bronze medal, which would be their biggest success ever in a World Cup. And what’s better than achieving that success at home, with their fans and in their home country.

They could be a bit disappointed with the defeat against England in the semi finals, but their tournament has been great and they must be proud of it. They managed to eliminate two strong teams like Canada and France, and surely this generation will make history.

Their star Sam Kerr made a great tournament, but he isn’t the only talented player in the team. Five players have already signed their transfer to the English Superleague.

Maybe Australia has been lacking danger in regular actions, as the majority of their goals came from set pieces. But they know it and are a great team playing with that tactics, especially when they are underdogs as they are now (and were against Canada, France, Denmark…

They feel much better without possession. A good example of this - so far in the tournament they only had two times more possession than their rivals (Nigeria and Ireland). Against Nigeria suffered a defeat 2:3 (Ireland had a very poor level so can’t count it).

On the other hand, Sweden must be very disappointed and will be lacking motivation here. They have lost in the semi-finals again (third time in their history) and the bronze medal isn’t enough prize for them. They were favorites to reach the finals, and although played a good game against Spain in the semi finals, conceded a late goal at 89’ which surely affected their morale.

Will be difficult for Sweden to gain motivation after Spain’s game and knowing that they will be again fighting for a poor prize (bronze medal) in a tournament where they had hopes to win. Especially after knocking out the best team and main favorites - the United States.

Sweden is also a dangerous team in the set-pieces. Their topscorer and Golden Boot contender is their defender Amanda Iletedt.

I think that Australia will have much more motivation for this game, due to the home support and the chance to win for the first time in their history a bronze medal in a World Cup. Sweden has quality but don’t see them at the same level of motivation as the Matildas here, with all of Australia supporting them. Sweden will be surely very disappointed with their defeat against Spain and playing this match, and Australia will be very proud of themselves and really motivated.
