Real Sociedad has been one of the best teams in La Liga last season and this year I'm expecting the same.

They have a great squad, with a lot of chemistry and quality, as well as a perfect coach. I think they’ll struggle with the Champions League and the midweek rounds, but meanwhile will perform very well in La Liga as they did last season.

They have the same squad as last season with some improvements: two key players (Oyarzabal and Sadiq) suffered an ACL injury and missed the whole season, but now are fully recovered and available.

Real Sociedad has been a team who plays with a lot of intensity and at 100%, it’s impossible for rivals to stop them. They attack from both wings, with very talented midfielders for the last pass,many players in the are to finish the actions, and a high pressure to avoid teams to have the control of the game. They are young and ready to afford the 90 minutes at 100% with high pressure.

For this new season in their first home game, where they have a lot of support, I’m expecting a very motivated team and playing at their best level. They are a Champions League (TOP4) contender, as was last season.

On the other hand, Girona is a mid-table team. They are a very offensive team and playing away use to struggle a lot, because they are sometimes taking too many risks. Their defenders are pretty weak and have lost some key players this summer, such as topscorer and main striker Taty Castellanos (Lazio), talented winger Rodrigo Riquelme (Atletico Madrid) and key midfielder Oriol Romeu (Barcelona). They were their three best players last season.

They have signed some interesting players such as Artem Dovbyk from Dnipro, Blind from Bayern or Pablo Torre from Barcelona. But for this match they have 8 players out due to injuries and others like Yangel Herrera or Artem Dovbyk have not been signed up in La Liga yet so can’t play.

Between this players out for different reasons are several key players/starters: Blind, Bueno, Dovbyk, Yangel Herrera and other replacements such as Juanpe, Borja Garcia, Valery, Ureña or Toni Villa.

Also the coach confirmed that they are still looking for a replacement for Oriol Romeu. So Girona’s squad is still not finished and for this match they have some troubles with injuries/inscriptions of players. And must remember that they lost their three best players last season in the transfer market, and the quality of the replacements is unknown yet.

So hosts have a better squad, more ability to make a good lineup, much more quality and are clearly favorites to start the season with a victory. Girona will play offensive, attack and leave spaces at the back so things should be easy for Real Sociedad to create danger and score goals here.

Last season Real Sociedad won 3:5 away and drew 2:2 at home in a game which was between Real Madrid and Barcelona, two difficult fixtures, and where they deserved much more (2.23 expected goals and 1.18 for Girona).
