Since Mendilibar took over last season in March he turned Sevilla into a European league winner and a top-4 team in La Liga, from the relegation zone, and naturally, he got rewarded with another contract. A man who has spent his life with teams who have limited resources was living his dream! Sevilla had been suffering from a bad transfer window and the defense was especially weakened, but it is stronger now and there are even some options if first-choice players are unavailable.

Of course, there was some luck involved, but the team's good effort was rewarded with good results which led to a winning atmosphere, and there are reasons to believe Sevilla are back on their expected level, in top-6, just behind the big three clubs from Madrid and Barcelona.

The starting 11 is very strong, and there are a lot of players who have returned from their loan period abroad, and it will be interesting to see how they fit in this season. Thomas Delaney, Adnan Januzaj, Juanlu Sanchez, and the centreback Gattoni from San Lorenzo. Actually Sevilla currently have too many players, and need to offload some of them. It is not the worst possible situation, especially compared to Valencia!

All the coaches at Valencia over recent seasons have had one and the same message. "Give me money and new players." The well-hated owner Lim has not agreed, he likes to sell, not to buy, and again this season Valencia coach Baraja has a mission impossible ahead of him, to secure a place in the league with a team that is mostly built from kids. There is 0 depth, and Valencia can not handle any injuries which are bound to happen.

In the preseason matches, it was difficult to see what Valencia was trying to do, and several players with very little CV were introduced.

With the lineup as predicted above Valencia would have a good chance of survival, but inner crises are bound to happen, I see it unlikely that the coach stays until the end of the season, the fans still hate the ownership, and on their travels, Valencia will struggle to win matches, probably none against the top-10 teams.

I predict Valencia to in the relegation battle all season, Sevilla to be in top-6.
