Jeju United and Pohang Steelers lock horns in this Korean Cup semi-final battle at Jeju World Cup Stadium in Seogwipo Wednesday morning Beijing time. Both teams play in K League 1 which is of decent level by International standards but much worse than for example the Japanese J1 League. By Korean standards we can expect a pretty good level and – most importantly – have yet another lucrative betting opportunity here. Jeju United are having a little disappointing season so far so I expect to be very eager to do well in the FA Cup. For their loyal and loud fans beating a pretty strong team, Pohang, would most certainly be very satisfying. Indeed, I see them being a little more motivated than the visitors here. Jeju currently occupy the 9th place in the K League 1 standings. A total of 12 teams compete in this league. However, they are just three point behind Daegu, currently in 6th place. Furthermore, they should move the ball faster in Jejythe midfield to create more promising attacks. Pohang, on the other hand, have scored 38 goals and do have a small edge in this area of the game. Jeju have conceded 35 goals and this is unarguably a little too much. Their defenders and midfielders have made too many individual mistakes. Even so, I want to highlight that their number of expected goals allowed (xGA) is significantly lower – 30.12 to be precise. Pohang, too, have some vulnerabilities in the defense and have allowed 29 goals in the K League 1 so far. Opponents have been able to hurt their defense especially through fast counter attacks.. The visitors number of xGA is 29.45.

Pohang are currently in second place in the standings and have a respectable 45 points to their account. Even so, they are not among the top-3 in my power rating that reflects the teams' pure class. However, when the teams last locked horns, on the 16th of July at Pohang Steel Yard the then hosts won 4-2 but the final score is very misleading and this result probably affects the odds too much here.. Jeju had 64% ball possession and recorded many more attacks (108-90) and dangerous attacks - 103-64. Both teams recorded eight shots on goal. The bookies see the visitors as favorites here, offering them odds of around 2.40 to win during the 90 minutes of play. Yes, they are a marginally better team by pure class but in this cup game, with the expected lineups, the hosts are very narrow favorites in my expert opinion.
