A new season of the French Ligue 2 for 2023-2024 gets underway on Saturday night as Amiens SC take on Quevilly at the Stade Crédit Agricole de la Licorne in the night kick-off. Amiens ended the last campaign poorly on a back of not so inspiring results. They have both had a quiet preseason. They enter the new season with limited funds and modest ambitions with an attempt to somehow find a way to secure promotion to the top flight to play amongst the elites. On the other hand, Quevilly ended last season on a strong note and on the back of some impressive results. They have shown hunger for bigger ambitions during the off season by the additions made to their team. For this season opener, I am expecting a win or a draw for the away team for the following reasons:

Firstly. Quevilly Rouen arrive at the Stade Crédit Agricole de la Licorne unbeaten in four of their last six previous league games. They have not been quiet during the preseason actions, as they had played couple of friendlies to get themselves in shape for the new season. A lot of evidences from those games point to the fact that they are coming into the new season better prepared. The visitors have also won both of their two pre-season friendly games. They also had good away records last season, and I expect that they should carry on with that habit in this campaign. They are however an inconsistent side.

Secondly. Amiens come into this campaign on the back of a mixed campaign of the previous season, having occupied a spot in the top six at the halfway stage, only to quickly drop down the table during the second part of the season. To put the icing on the cake, they also ended last campaign with a home loss to cap off an underwhelming campaign. However, their activities during the off season have not shown that they are ready to make big strides in this new season. This opening game of the season leaves space for the hosts to get a result in front of their fans as they face Quevilly. But they do have poor home record as they lost both of their last two home games in the league in the last campaign.

Quevilly have a good record against their current opponents, as they have beaten them in three of their last six meatings while drawing them twice. Season openers are usually tricky to predict, but I believe that Quevilly have shown enough qualities for me to believe that they can get a win or a draw against Amiens in this season opener.
