HERTHA - WEHEN

Hertha Berlin, recently relegated from the Bundesliga, has the best squad in the league. Lot of quality and the highest value in the Bundesliga 2, almost double of the second highest-valued team (and 6-8 times more than the majority of teams).

Relegated teams from the Bundesliga use to receive a lot of money and use to keep a very strong squad, so Hertha is clearly a promotion contender and even the main title contender. But they started the new campaign in the Bundesliga 2 with a disappointing result against Fortuna, losing 1:0. They made a promising performance, but need a bit more.

This was a good shock and a dose of reality: Bundesliga 2 won’t be as easy as expected. Although they have the best squad, they need to be very competitive and play at their best level.

They managed to retain several key players from the last season, like their topscorer Dodi Lukebakio (11 goals), whose value is higher than several teams from the Bundesliga 2. He’ll probably leave the team soon, along with others like Serdar, but have also others like Richter who are top quality for this division.

On the other hand, Wehen is a newly promoted side from the third division, and has one of the worst squads in the league (the third worst according to their value). Their target for this season is to avoid relegation, and their strong point will be at home where they are pretty strong.

They achieved promotion pretty lucky: Ended 4th, but were promoted because 2nd on table (Freiburg II) couldn’t promote as the first team was in the Bundesliga 2. So in normal circumstances, qualified as 4th, they would not have been promoted.

They started the campaign with a remarkable draw at home 1:1 against Magdeburg, a mid-table team. But this game against Hertha will be much more difficult. That draw was pretty lucky as that was more Magdeburg’s fault because they weren't able to close the game after leading and Wehen managed to draw with a man down.

Their defender Aleksandar Vukotic is suspended for this game.

Hertha has much more quality, several Bundesliga players whilst Wehen has several players from the third division. For hosts this will be their first home game in the Bundesliga 2 and after suffering a defeat last weekend, will play very motivated to achieve the victory. Hertha has everything needed in this fixture to achieve the victory: quality, motivation and an easy rival.

If Hertha wants to be top contender, and I believe they do, games like this one should be won with no excuses regardless what stage of the season we have.

KRASNODAR - NIZHNY NOVGOROD

FK Krasnodar has one of the best squads in the league as is a TOP5 team. They started the campaign last weekend with a hard-fought 2-0 win at home to regional rivals PFC Sochi. Even though they left it till deep into added time to finish off their visitors with a second goal, they remain a team to have 100% record this campaign with striker Jhon Cordoba in lethal form scoring in both league games so far.

They are heavily backed to do that after three consecutive clean sheets at home in the league, with their last league defeat at their own stadium coming last October.

Only lost against Spartak Moscow (one of the best teams in the league) 1:2 in the Cup after receiving a red card at 44’.

Key player Kady Borges (playmaker) is back after suffering a small injury.

On the other hand, FC Nizhny Novgorod ground out an unspectacular but effective point on the road to Ural Yekaterinburg (0:0) last weekend. This was their second game without scoring a goal, and at the moment they are the only team in the whole league who has not found the net yet.

They have changed almost their whole squad, with 20 transfers and any remarkable player signed, as majority of them are from B teams of Zenit or Lokomitiv and free transfers; whilst lost some good players like attacker Milson (Maccabi Tel Aviv).

They have a pretty weak squad (the third worst in the league according to their value), and their target is one more time to avoid relegation. Last season achieved it luckily as ended 13th (relegation playoffs) and in the second game against their rival Rodina Mosvow were totally outplayed, losing 0:2 with guests missing a penalty which could have forced the ET. Looking at both games, they were outplayed and didn't deserve to win the playoff.

They also have a terrible away record. Last season ended with a run of 6 defeats and 1 draw in their last 7 away games, and this season already started with a poor performance against Ural (0:0). In the first round they were totally outplayed by Zenit (0:2), the best team in the league.

All the signs point to three wins from three for FK Krasnodar, so expect a home win here. Last season Krasnodar totally outplayed Nizhny in both games, winning 3:1 and 0:2.
