SWITZERLAND - NORWAY

Switzerland has built a squad that is tenacious and can tango with the best teams in the world. Their team has some versatile players who will give opponents fits, and they also have a solid defense that remains organized. There’s a reason they’re one of the top 20 teams in the world: their style of play keeps them in matches, and they have the ability to knock any team out of the tournament.

They started the World Cup with a solid victory 0:2 against the Philippines, a very weak side. But it wasn’t an easy victory, as they were under pressure for many minutes, especially at the beginning of the game.

The captain Lia Walti, key player and able to dominate the midfield, will need to improve much more as her performance against Philippines was so poor. Maybe she is still struggling due to the injury she suffered recently.

We must remember their last EURO tournament, where they just achieved one point in 3 games and weren’t able to qualify to ⅛ finals. Only managed a draw against Portugal, losing against Sweden and Netherlands, both pretty strong teams (Norway drew 3:3 with Sweden in a friendly game played in April).

On the other hand, Norway is desperate for a win here. After a disappointing EUROs last year exiting in the group stage, they had big hopes to qualify here given the easy group they had. But the unexpected defeat against co-hosts New Zealand put everything in the air.

On paper, they are a team which should be among the teams in the latter stages. They have a very solid squad able to beat anyone. For this tournament they’ve got a new manager in Hege Riise, who was the Team GB coach at the Tokyo Olympics and previously won the World Cup with Norway as a player in 1995 so she has a lot of experience at the highest level. Some Norwegian players have already played under Riise, such as Reiten during her time in LSK Kvinner. Riise has started to build a foundation of national team players from the domestic league, Toppserien. Nine of the players selected for the Women’s World Cup play in the Norwegian top-flight.

With a host of talent among their ranks in attacking positions, the Norway squad contains some of the best players in club football, but they have yet to really show that talent as a group with the national team. There is a certain level of expectation for this tournament, with the squad containing the likes of Caroline Graham Hansen (Barcelona), Guro Reiten (Chelsea), Frida Leonhardsen Maanum (Arsenal) and Ada Hegerberg (Olympique Lyonnais).

I see Norway with much more quality here and I think that players will step up a much-needed win against the Swiss team.

COLOMBIA - KOREA REPUBLIC

I see guests favorites here.

Colombia, runners-up in the Copa America last year, has an interesting squad with some creative stars in the making and they have some established veterans. They have lot of names who are lighting up in the Spanish league such as Manuela Vanegas (Real Sociedad), Mayra Ramírez (Levante), Leicy Santos (Atlético Madrid) and Linda Caicedo (Real Madrid), who has just 18 years old and won the MVP in the Copa America.

So they have a good squad, with quality, with the aim of continuing progressing and reaching the ⅛ finals. For that this match will be key, as they have a very easy fixture against Morocco and a very tight one against Germany.

On the other hand, Korea Republic has a great squad, with a very strong competitive spirit. They’re always a team that gives opponents fits, because they play well together, they play with purpose, and they can battle with anyone. They test themselves constantly against some of the best competition, and they hope that experience will help them in this group to get to the knockout stage and make some noise.

South Korea are the current Women’s Asian Cup runners-up, and are (after Germany) the next-best ranked (17th) side in the group, according to FIFA rankings. They are making their fourth appearance at the Women’s World Cup and third in a row, so have plenty of experience here.

Colin Bell’s side have proven an ability to be solid at the back while letting their difference-makers do the job in the final third. Their 3-4-2-1 is geared towards defending in numbers and being defensively sound, but they do lack the numbers in midfield to offer them control. The attack largely looks to the brilliance of the likes of Ji So-yun and Lee Geum-min, two of their best players.

South Korea will once again look to all-time leading goalscorer Ji to deliver the goods in attack. The former Chelsea player has made the joint-most appearances for the national team (145, tied with Cho So-hyun), scoring a record 67 goals. She has been among the world’s best players for many years.

Another key player in the South Korea setup is Brighton forward Lee. While not the most prolific goalscorer, the former Manchester City player shines through her incredible link-up play. She likes to get on the ball and play lay-offs, acting as a conduit between the lines.

Lee has been sharp in front of goal this year, though, netting five times in her past three outings for South Korea. Usually deployed as one of the 10s or as the striker, she will be key to the team’s hopes of making this a memorable tournament.

This will be a very equal game where a draw won’t be a bad deal for both of them. then, will need to make a good goal difference with Morocco and try to avoid a big defeat against the giant Germany side. I see Korea even with a bit more quality here, and I believe they are totally able to avoid defeat here.

瑞士-挪威
