They have failed to make it out of the group stage in two of their three World Cup appearances, but they did reach the last 16 in the 2015 tournament. They are, however, coming into this match and the World Cup tournament on a good momentum having won all their last three games. They are on a good form compared to the South Americans who are coming into the tournament on a run of one win and two draws.

Secondly. With last year's Copa America doubling as a qualifying tournament, Colombia knew that they had to finish as one of the top three teams to secure automatic qualification. They made it to the finals before succumbing to a 1-0 defeat to Brazil who were crowned the Champions eventually. After competing on the world stage in 2011 and 2015, Colombia failed to qualify for the 2019 tournament, but they had no such trouble this time around. They will be hoping to produce their best performance at the World Cup, but having won one, drawn two and lost four of their seven matches at the tournament previously, that would be easier said than done.

With Germany favourites to top Group H, South Korea are set to battle Colombia and Morocco for a place in the knockout rounds. This encounter promises to be a close-fought contest, and with both sides desperate to avoid defeat in their opening game, a cagey affair between both teams may lead to a draw. But South Korea still have the pedigree to get a win from this opening game.
