NORRKOPING - DEGERFORS

Norrkoping is coming from a victory last weekend and full of confidence after breaking their winless run of 6 games. But need to mention that 3 of their last 4 games were played against teams above them in the table (Djurgarden, Halmstad, Hacken). They are now 6th on the table, which is a fair position for them. The club is looking for some new transfers to raise the level of their squad. This week they signed the young attacker Isak Andri Sigurgirsson from Iceland, who is a very good player for Norrkoping.

Seeing their last performance against Mjallby, and their recent games against top teams like Djurgardens or Hacken (both draws), I believe that they have come out of their bad spell.

On the other hand, Degerfors is still without several long-term injured players, a total of 6. Among them influential attacking player Dijan Vukojevic (ACL injury).

Degerfors has one of the worst squads in the Allsvenskan - according to their value of 7MM euros, the second worst after bottom Varberg. Norrkoping’s squad value is over 13MM euros, almost double. They are coming from a defeat against Sirius last weekend, sitting 13th on the table. They are out of relegation (just one point above) so are happy with their performance so far.

Degerfors has, by far, the worst defense of the league. 40 goals conceded in just 16 games, whilst the second worst defense is bottom Varberg with 29. They have lost 4 of their last 5 games.

Surely they’ll be struggling with relegation till the end of the season, as they are one of the main relegation contenders. Their away performances have been terrible too, being the worst traveller of the Allsvenskan with 6 defeats in 7 games, 5 goals scored and 25 conceded.

Their last away fixture against Brommapojkarna (1:2) was their only away victory this season so far, which came luckily with two late goals at 82’ and 84’, after being totally outplayed with 1.99 expected goals (xG) against for only 0.65 in favour. Before that game, they suffered huge defeats by several teams with different quality/targets: 5:0 Malmo, 6:1 Hacken, 6:0 Goteborg (only Goteborg’s victory so far), 3:1 Hammarby…

There’s a quality difference here, plus the form and home advantage. Guests have been terrible playing far from home the whole season and have to deal with several missings. This game should be a perfect chance for Norrkoping to pick up another victory.

STRÖMSGODSET - ROSENBORG

Stromsgodset is coming from a 1:0 defeat against Brann, played in very difficult conditions due to heavy weather and rain. It did not suit Stromsgodset’s technical style, and they were outplayed by the physicality of Brann.

That defeat ended a run of four consecutive victories in the league and Stromsgodset had previously been playing some very good football. Manager Jorgen Isnes has impressed tactically with his 3-4-2-1 system this season. With 4 wins out of 6 at home in league action, Marienlyst Stadium has been a tough place for teams to visit, with their artificial turf.

On the other hand, Rosenborg is 4 points and two positions below Stromsgodset, in a campaign which has been poor so far. Last weekend they managed finally to win a match beating Tromso, playing pretty well. It was an improved performance and a relief for new manager Svein Maalen. That victory was the end of their winless run of 5 games with 4 consecutive defeats.

The club and players have pressure because they are a big club in Norway and have only 16 points in 15 games so far, with just 17 goals scored. They have not won a single away game yet, with 3 draws and 3 defeats. Their midfielder Santeri Vaananen got injured in the match last weekend and is doubtful, while captain Markus Henriksen remains out until the end of the season with a knee problem.

This is a difficult match to predict, and anything is possible. A draw wouldn’t be a surprise, but home advantage might give Stromsgodset a slight edge. They could beat Rosenborg if they take their chances.

Furthermore, Stromsgodset stadium (artificial turf) has been lately a difficult place for Rosenborg (who plays in a stadium with hybrid field, much more similar to the natural one): Hosts won the last 2 games played at home against Rosenborg, and drew the previous two.

Norrkoping - degerfors
