TROMSO - BRANN

A very equal game where there’s no favorite.

Tromso, 4th in the table, are having a fantastic season as they are just two points below Viking who is second and with the same points as Brann, who is third (with one more game played).

They are a very difficult team to beat, suffering just three defeats so far: Rosenborg (2:1) conceding a goal at 92’ after a red card, Bodo/Glimt (2:3) who is the leader and best team in the league, and Odd (0:1). Winless in the last two games are in “bad run”, as they also lost in the Cup against Bodo/Glimt recently. But before that they were in a good run of 5 consecutive victories.

Their season and performances so far have been fantastic, playing very well and being very solid in defense. They have the best defensive numbers in the whole league with only 13 goals conceded so far, and three of them by Bodo/Glimt.

At home they are a difficult team to beat, with their artificial turf, which is a huge advantage against teams who use to play in natural fields like Brann. Curiously, the two teams that managed to beat them at home this season (Odd and Bodo/Glimt), both play in artificial turf too.

On the other hand, Brann is a very similar team in terms of quality and value to Tromso. They are third, having a fantastic season. They are coming from a lucky victory against Stromsgodset 1:0 in very difficult weather conditions.

Brann is a totally different team at home and away. They struggle in artificial fields, such as Molde (2:0), Viking (3:1), Odd (2:0) or Sarpsborg (2:1). They have won 8 games so far in the league, but only 2 of them were as visitors. In their most recent away trip against Molde (2:0) they were totally outplayed and struggled a lot in the artificial turf (as always).

Worth to mention also that Brann has been overperforming this season. They are a newly promoted team from the second league so the TOP positions aren’t a real target for them.

It is surprising for me to see Brann favourite. The home advantage with the artificial turf here is huge plus both teams have the same quality, so there’s no reason to see them favorites here. Last time they visited Tromso, in 2021, drew 1:1.

ODD - VALERENGA

We already bet on Odd last weekend when they outplayed and beat Aalesund 0:3. The reasons are the same: a very solid defense (the third best in the Eliteserien with just 15 goals conceded) and midfield. Their weak point is clearly the attack lacking quality and players who can finish chances.

In the last victory against Aalesund was the veteran defender Espen Ruud who scored two goals and gave one assist, but surely that three goals were a big boost for the team, to gain confidence and start scoring more goals. It’s much needed because only bottom Aalesund has scored less goals in the league so far.

Anyway, although Odd is a very difficult team to predict, their solid defense gives me confidence to bet on them covering the draw. They are a difficult team to beat, so that’s a good point.

Odd BK can be very difficult to predict, and anything is possible with this team on different days. They have now won 3 of their last 5 league games to climb to 9th position in the table. Scoring goals has been a general problem and only Aalesund have netted fewer in the Eliteserien this season. They lack attacking weapons, and all their scorers last week were defenders.

On the other hand, Valerenga is now in the relegation zone after a terrible run of 11 points in their last 13 games, with 5 defeats and just one draw in their last 6 league fixtures. They are lacking confidence and motivation.

The team has a new manager - Geir Bakke, recently signed from Lillestrom, and he still has a lot of work to do. The club is hoping to sign new players in the August transfer market, which are much needed. Attacker Daniel Hakans is out for at least 1 month due to an injury.

They are coming from a terrible performance against Molde last week, where they lost 0:4. Valerenga has also a serious problem with the goal, with just 15 scored so far. They are the second team with fewer victories so far, only three: bottom Aalesund, Rosenborg and Ham-Kam at home.

Need to mention also the home advantage, as Odd plays in artificial field whilst Valerenga plays in natural one. Valerenga has won only one game in artificial pitch this season: at bottom Aalesund’s stadium. The rest have been draws or defeats. Last season Odd won 2:1 at home.

Valerenga will improve under their new manager, but it could take some time. Right now, Odd BK are in much better form. Draw is pretty possible here but having to choose one team, I think that Odd has much more chances due to home advantage and confidence.
