AALESUND - ODD

Aalesund defender Nicolai Hopland remains on international duty for Norway U19. He has been a solid starter in the season so far.

Aalesund lost 1-2 away to Ham-Kam last week which was a massive disappointment for them vs a major relegation rival. They will probably feel like they should have at least drawn the match after a decent second half performance but one huge mistake from goalkeeper Sten Grytebust was very costly.

Aalesund are now back at the bottom of the table on just seven points. They have lost a massive 10 out of 13 league matches this season. They also have the worst offensive numbers of the league with just 9 goals scored (although Odd is in a similar situation - just 10 goals scored). But the difference is in the defense: Aalesund has conceded 25, and Odd just 15.

It looks like Aalesund will be lacking a lot of confidence and motivation. They are in terrible form and situation, and the defeat against Ham-Kam was a big shock for them. Lack of quality is obvious and the team will be struggling with relegation till the last round, as they are between the main relegation contenders.

They have won just two games so far:

Rosenborg (1:0), which was totally undeserved as they had 0.90 expected goals (xG) against 1.66 xG of Rosenborg, who also had more possession (66%) and shots (20).

Molde (3:1) with guests missing a penalty to equalize with 1:0, having more possession, shots, and expected goals too.

On the other hand, Odd BK have some extra quality which can help them get at least a draw. They have no important injuries or suspensions.

Are coming from an expected defeat 0:2 against Bodo/Glimt (the leaders of the league). They didn’t play too badly and might possibly have regrets that they didn’t take their chances.

As said above, Odd BK have only scored 10 league goals in 14 matches, and they have an offensive problem lacking quality and players who can finish chances. They are a difficult team to predict but do have a reasonably good defence and midfield, in contrast to Aalesund. Their 15 goals conceded is a very decent number - just two more than leaders Bodo/Glimt for example. They have the third best defence of the whole Eliteserien.

Away from home, Odd has achieved more points (8) than Aalesund in total (7), who has been the worst team of the league so far.

It's a surprise for me to see Aalesund as such a clear favourite to win. Odd BK are not a team who are very trustworthy but are capable of defending well and can get at least a draw. 0-0 or 1-1 is very possible here so taking the away handicap looks the best option.

HAMMARBY - KALMAR

Hammarby is favorite here although their season so far they have not been as good as last year, where they ended third and just one point below Djurgarden.

Hammarby have been unpredictable this season. Last week they managed a 2-1 win against Sirius away from home. Their first away win in league play of the season. They are still only in 10th place in the league which is not at all what they had hoped before the season started. They have been underperforming and I see them with potential to make things much better.

There were rumors about the possible departure of coach Marti Cifuentes during the league break, but after Sirius’ victory the team is totally different, in good form and motivated. Before their last game they had just two wins in their last 9 games, which is a disaster for a team like Hammarby. Their defense was pretty weak, but they are fine solutions and some players like the young attacker Jusef Erabi are doing it well, with two goals in his last three games.

On the other hand, Kalmar lost 0-4 to Elfsborg last week. Their keeper Ricardo Friedrich was sent off with the team 0-1 down in the first half, and he will be suspended for this match.

Their Conference League qualifier game is very close and they are pretty focused on it, but still need to play two more Allsvenskan rounds. They are in bad form, since the league break only achieved a lucky and undeserved draw against Mjallby (1:1), who had 2.68 xG and Kalmar only 0.69, while against Elfsborg (0:4) they conceded a lot and were totally outplayed.

Hammarby could be about to kickstart their campaign with a win here. Their season so far has not been impressive, but they are clearly improving and growing, and also they have a lot of potential. They have still not won back to back wins in the league but they face Kalmar without their first choice keeper and should take advantage of that.

If Hammarby continues improving as I’m expecting, and Kalmar continues showing their poor level as shown recently, we should see a home win here.
