Kalmar travel to Strandvallen to face Mjallby AIF on Monday night in the Swedish Allsvenkan match. If the visitors are to break into the top three, then their results away from home need to improve, as Kalmar have won just two of their previous eight league matches on the road. However, I am expecting a win or a draw for Kalmar for the following reasons:

Firstly. Mjallby are playing poorly at the moment. They head into Monday’s clash with Kalmar having lost three of their last four games. The home team have yet to repeat the highs of 2020, when their return to the Allsvenskan saw them race into an impressive fifth-place finish. They have been solidly midtable, finishing 9th in the last two years. They look on course for another midtable finish, especially based off their results so far this term. While they have put themselves clear of any danger from the relegation zone, their results to date show that they are not going to finish any higher. Mjallby have won only four times this term, picking up all of those victories against sides below them in the table. They are the second-lowest scorers in the top flight, but their defensive record is quite impressive though.

Secondly. In contrast to their hosts, Kalmar head into this fixture in high spirits after dropping just two points from their last four league matches. Consecutive victories over Varnamo and Norrkoping were followed by a 1-1 away draw with AIK. But Kalmar returned to winning ways in their previous encounter against Degerfors. Kalmar are without a doubt one of the best teams in the league, and even though they are in 5th place, they still have a chance to join the fight with the leaders Malmo, Elfsborg, and Hacken, for league trophy and the European positions.

Kalmar will be in high spirits after dropping just two points in their last four games, and with three of Mjallby's previous four matches ending in defeat, I think they will prove too strong for the home team and return home with all three points. However, Kalmar have shown to struggle while playing away from home, and the home team do possess one of the best defence in the league. They will take confidence from the fact that they have already produced a resolute display against Kalmar this season, playing out a goalless draw in March's Svenska Cupen meeting before going on to win the subsequent penalty shootout. I am not going to write them off completely. So, I will be expecting a win or a draw for Kalmar from the game.
