Guatemala and Canada lock horns in this North and Central America Gold Cup round 2 battle at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, in the USA Sunday morning Beijing time. There is of course no doubt about the fact that Canada are the better team here! They even played in the World Cup in Qatar last December. However, they lost all three games. They excited the football fans around the world with their high-energy, aggressive and pretty risky offensive football especially in the first half of the first group match against Belgium. However, in the second half and against Croatia to whom they lost 1-4 it was easy to see that this young team does have a lot of talent and most players are very athletic but the team is also pretty immature and tactically not very great. Canada will surely be a dangerous team in 3-4 years time. At the moment they are, however, over-valued in most games on the betting market. This match is no exception. They were very disappointing in their most recent game against Guadeloupe as massive favorites according to the bookies. Indeed, they were priced around 1.20 to take all three points! However, it was a 2-2 draw. I want to highlight that Guadeloupe, officially a part of France, are very small football country. They do have a few pretty good players but Canada should have beaten them easily. 

Today's opponent Guatemala are a much stronger football country than the island of Guadeloupe! Yes, Canada were slightly the better team but the match was much more balanced than I – or most probably anyone would have estimated before the kickoff! Canada had only 56% ball possession and recorded only one more shot on goal than Guadeloupe. Furthermore, they generated just 1.29 in expected goals (xG) – the opponents managed 1.19. Before this Canada were not that bad but still lost to the USA 0-2. The Canadians had 61% ball possession but the Americans recorded more goal attempts (16-12) as well as shots on goal – 11-6 to be precise. They did deserve to win. Guatemala, on the other hand, dominated Cuba in the first round. Yes, they only won 1-0 but recorded many more goal attempts (17-6) and especially shots on goal - 6-1. Guatemala defended very well as a team and Cuba only recorded 0.11 in xG! Guatemala could easily have scored at least two goals after generating 2.02 in xG. Today they will be forced to defend hard I believe and have a great chance of not losing by more than one goal's difference!
