USA is coming to this match with important missings of several players who are playing in Europe, such as: Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, Giovanni Reyna, Timothy Weah, Ricardo Pepi, Serginho Dest or Musah who played the group stage and the World Cup.

Pulisic is their best player, while others like McKennie, Weah, Dest, Musah or Reyna are solid starters as we saw in the World Cup. So the squad for the USMNT for this match will be almost full of players from the MLS (16), two from the MX League and only 5 from Europe who use to be reserves in the National Team: Matt Turner (Arsenal), Gaga Slonina (Chelsea), Bryan Reynolds (Roma), Gianluca Busio (Venezia) and Djordje Mihailovic (AZ Alkmaar).

We’ll see a similar lineup/squad as the one who drew at home 1:1 with Mexico just two months ago with both teams using players from the local leagues as it wasn’t an official FIFA date so they couldn’t use any players from european leagues.

In that game, the USA were outplayed (4/9 shots, 1/3 shots on target, 47/53% possession) and scored the goal in the last minutes of the game at 82'.

Previously, they also drew 0:0 in Mexico and USA won 2:0 at home with goals from Pulisic and McKennie (both out for this fixture) for the WC Qualifiers.

On the other hand, Mexico is coming with a lot of motivation to achieve the title. The squad has pressure to win this because they have a busy summer and the coach Diego Cocca is already with a lot of doubts due to their poor results and performances, as Mexico has big ambitions for their national team.

They have a great squad with several players who are at the same level as the USA main stars, such as Edson Alvarez, Santiago Gimenez or Luis Chavez. Most probably Santiago Gimenez won’t be a starter, because Henry Martin is in great form (he has been the topscorer of the Clausura - MX League).

Players are also with the coach, as Luis Romo said: “we simply can’t lose against the USA, we need to give our best and don’t lose, we need to support the coach”.

Both teams are far from their best level, but I see Mexico very competitive and seeing both squads, the quality is at 50-50. USA’s absences are very important and their squad will be very weak in comparison with their best one shown in the World Cup. I’m expecting a similar match as the friendly we saw a couple months ago, where Mexico drew 1:1 and deserved to win.
