It ended 2-2, in the light of th goal expectations it was a rather fair result, but mostly from Finnish side only 3 players stood out. The keeper Joronen played an excellent game, midfielder Glen Kamara showed he should play for a better side than Rangers, and the striker Teemu Pukki is one of the top scorers in Europe right now, he had chances for more than the two goals he scored. The others? Well cb Arajuuri is always a reliable one even if he this time lost the battle the Dzeko... but the rest seemed to be in the wrong place altogether! The wing-backs Alho and Hämäläinen were especially lost. The captain Sparv came in only to the last minutes, and will miss today due injury.

The head coach Kanerva promised changes into the starting lineup of Finland, but there is very little to choose from with the absentees and probably only Joel Pohjanpalo will replace Onni Valakari upfront. The forementioned Alho and Hämäläinen should be replaced, but the problem is that there are no options who individually can match the opponents. Granlund might come in, but the whole Europe knows by now his lack of skill with the ball and that the centre-backs never pass to him. Also the fact that Joronen is a lot worse with his feet than the usual keeper Hradecky would be will lead to serious problems in the opening play.

Ukraine started their qualification with a 1-1 in France. Excellent result, but not really a wonder as the team is really good, and the head coach Shenvchenko has the same format to success to Dynamo Kiev has in Europe. Well-organised and strong defense. Occasionally they seem to miss goals and effectivity in the attack, but it has to remembered that in the last qualification they were ahead of red hot Portugal side! The youth teams of Ukraine have been succesful for years, and there is a plenty to build on.

Finland will be more defensive this time and the fresh attacking and open play that happended v Bosnia was an anomaly, or was it? Did the coach see that with the defenders available they would need to score to get a result?

Against France Ukraine were very defensive with a 5 man defense line, tonight it will be a 4-4-2 again.

Yarmolenko and Stepanenko miss this game, but the expected lineup is very strong as you see below:
