Dortmund is having a fantastic season which has seen them go joint top of the league and they also have one foot in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League. Chelsea has a one goal deficit heading into the second leg and they have a mountain to climb considering their recent results. Right now, Dortmund is the favorite to qualify and I'm tipping them to get a win or draw in normal time for the following reasons;
FIRST REASON
Both teams are having very different seasons. Chelsea is struggling in the league and is on the back foot heading into this game. The Blues have only won one of their last seven games in all competitions and they were on a three game losing streak just before the Leeds game. I think they are very low on confidence and don't look like playing for the manager. Watching Chelsea play, you cannot pinpoint their particular playing style and this has made winning very difficult for the London team. Borussia Dortmund is having a great year so far and have won all their games in 2023. I don't see them losing to a weakened Chelsea team and they can get the win here to extend their advantage or settle for a draw which also takes them to the quarter finals.
SECOND REASON
Apart from Chelsea's non-existent playing style and their dip in form, the Blues have suffered major injury setbacks and they would be without their best defender on Tuesday when they face Dortmund. Thiago Silva has been immense since signing for PSG and in his absence, there is nobody to lead the backline. Borussia Dortmund attackers could have a field day against Chelsea and they could go on to outscore them once again.
THIRD REASON
Borussia Dortmund has the lead from the first leg and they are likely to be conservative in their style as a draw can earn them a spot in the last eight. Chelsea has often struggled against teams that sit back to play on the counter. When Dortmund sits back, Chelsea would find it hard to break them down as they have been lacking creativity this season. This is enough to earn Borussia Dortmund an away win or draw as they are very dangerous on the counter. The goal Dortmund scored in the first leg was from a fast break finished off by Karim Adeyemi.
Chelsea's woes look set to continue after they lost the first leg in Germany. I'm predicting Borussia Dortmund to get an away win or draw that would take them to the next stage of this competition.
