Portugal won their first two games in the group stage before rotating most of their starting XI against South Korea in the final game.

In terms of the game, they weren’t perfect or fantastic, but they have so much individual quality in the squad that the team scores goals regardless. Players like Rafa Leão have been firmly anchored on the bench, perhaps Serie A's best player last season. There are world-class players in basically every position. If there is anywhere to find a weakness in Portugal, it is the inner midfield, which is not quite as high class as the rest of the team. Ruben Neves and William Carvalho have competed for playing time, two players who hold a high European level but not world class.

Switzerland progressed from their group stage without shining. In typical Swiss fashion, they did the job against both Cameroon and Serbia. In the meeting against Brazil, they were defending themselves for a point before Brazil decided late in the second half. Switzerland aren’t an easy side to face. Switzerland are well organized defensively, work for each other as a team and are generally very difficult to face.

Portugal go into the meeting as favorites, but Switzerland are far from without a chance.
