It's the last day of the Eurobasket! After two great weeks, it has come to an end, and it is going to be a game between Spain and France that will decide the outcome of the gold medals. We could say that is no surprise that France is competing in the finals but Spain's appearance is a little bit of a surprise. In the semifinals, France crushed Poland while Spain competed against Germany and guaranteed the win in the last quarter.

While in the group phase Spain didn't play so well and struggled at times, the team showed real character in the playoffs. In the first round versus Lithuania, Spain had a 10-point deficit but they came back. The next game was against up-and-running Finland. Spain played awful in the first half and was down by 15 points but a great third quarter allowed them to come back and secure the win in the 4th quarter. Semifinal was against Germany and the biggest deficit for Spain was 10 points. Despite the pressure of the home fans, Spain scored 13 points in a row in the last quarter and advanced to the finals. Although many thoughts that this isn't a very competitive Spanish team, they have proved doubters wrong, and since 1999 Spain hasn't won a medal only once.

France also struggled in the group phase, and it gave only 3rd seed. I already mentioned in the previous previews that French players were very lucky as in TOP16 and TOP8 phase they forced overtime although opponents could have secured victory if the free throws would be made.

In this tournament, Spain has been a great offensive team scoring 91.1 points per game. France has scored almost 10 points less (82.0) but they have demonstrated great defense. In the semifinals against Poland, France allowed only 18 points in the first half. In two more games, France allowed less than 70 points but in regulation, four more opponents had less than 80 points.

In all playoff games, Spain allowed 90 or more points while in the group phase opponents only once scored more than that. I'm more confident about France's ability to win the title. They are more experienced and have competed for medals in every tournament while this Spain generation hasn't done that yet. In games like this, the defense is the thing that decides the faith of the title. France's defense is going to be something new for Spain and I'm predicting that France is going to cover the handicap and French players will be again the best team in Europe since 2013!
