Inter Turku vs HJK Helsinki

Inter from Turku host HJK Helsinki for this Suomen Cup quarter-finals battle at Veritas Stadion. Many of many fans know that HJK Helsinki are the best team in Veikkausliiga, the first tier of Finnish football where both teams play. However, this does not mean that we would not go against them in some matches. We actually easily won a pick (+1.5 goals) on IFK Mariehamn, a lowly team in Veikkausliiga, when they defeated HJK 2-1 at home a week ago. HJK were the better team but far from their best, as expected, because of internal turmoil - they had to sack Brazilian midfielder Jair, a key player. He was found guilty of sexually harassing a young girl in 2016 - and also due to multiple important players being absent. HJK, as I have mentioned, have a big number of very good players, but even HJK’s level drops if too many important guys are missing.. They situation is not great today either: Valtteri Moren and the Riski brothers Riku and Roope as well as Joona Toivio are injured. Johannes Yli-Kokko is ill. Santeri Väänänen, Miska Ylitolva and Perparim Hetemaj have returned to training but probably will not play today.

HJK will face KuPS, their biggest rival in Veikkausliiga on Saturday at home and this is the most important match for them this week. They will also almost certainly finish in top3 in Veikkausliiga – this would guarantee them important UEFA’s club competition matches for next season. There is also an ultra-important Champions League qualification match against Rigas Football Skola (Latvia) coming up next week.. I believe the coach Toni Koskela will not field his best squad today.. For Inter, the situation is different, they are the 4th best team in Veikkausliiga at the moment, but might struggle during the rest of the season as this is their best player’s Benjamin Källman’s last match at Inter – he will continue his career abroad. Benjamin is perhaps the best player in Veikkausliiga at the moment! The weather is excellent in turkey today – sunny and about +30 -so many fans will be supporting their team at the stadium against the biggest team in Finland and see Källman on the pitch one last time. The home advantage is indeed substantial today. Let’s also remember that Inter already defeated HJK 4-1 this season in Helsinki! In Turku HJK won 1-0 though after a balanced match. Moreover, Inter were impressive in their most recent match crushing FC Lahti at home 5-1. Lahti did receive a red card in the first half, but it was still a great performance. HJK are only very marginal favorites here and the bet Inter +0.5 goals has a 65% chance of winning!
